Bundled packages with broadband

What is a bundled package?

Very simply a bundled package is when a provider wraps two or three services into one monthly payment. For example you may be offered your home phone calls, a broadband internet connection and digital TV channels as part of a bundled deal. These types of deals were first offered by cable companies, but since Local Loop Unbundling means BT has had to offer its phone lines to other suppliers, more suppliers can offer bundled deals. Today we are even seeing the offer of “free” broadband in return to signing up to a particular plan.

What are the advantages of bundled packages?

Bundling services can be a great step into integrating broadband into your home. Here are some of the benefits of bundling your services:

  • You can save money – providers often give a discount on your broadband or free calls if you sign up to a bundled package
  • Easy bill management – you only receive one bill and need to make one payment each month
  • You only to contact one customer services if you need help or have a questions about your service

What are the disadvantages of bundling?

While bundling can offer you a great deal you also need to be aware of the drawbacks of bundled deals:

  • You may save money or get a better value deal if you took your services from separate providers
  • You will be tied into a contract – bundled packages generally come with a fixed period time contract so you are tied to the deal for a set period of time
  • You may find that one part of the service does not fulfil your requirements
  • If you do experience bad service you are stuck with it for all products

Should you take a bundled package?

As everyone’s needs are different, you should make a comparison of bundled packages using the uSwitch.com bundle comparison service. When you make your comparison be sure to remember the following factors:

  • bundled packages will tie you into a contract. Are you comfortable with this?
  • you may not get the latest offer straight away. Providers do not automatically upgrade bundled packages – so you may be tied to a 1 Mb package even though faster speeds are available through your provider
  • bundled packages may not offer all the services you need. Are you prepared to compromise?
  • are you already in a fixed contract for any of the services offered in the package you want?

You can compare bundled packages and see if they are the right deal for you.

Make the best connection
