What is cable broadband?
Cable broadband is now offered alongside home phone and digital TV via a cable modem using the same technology as cable TV. An engineer will need to come to your home and connect you to the cable network if you do not have cable currently.
Who offers cable broadband?
There are only two providers currently offering broadband via cable in Britain; Telewest and ntl. The availability of cable services also depends if cable pipes have been laid in your area. In some areas, cable is not available due to the cost of digging up the roads and laying the pipes or because planning restrictions prohibit pipes being laid.
What’s the difference between cable and ADSL?
There is very little difference between cable and ADSL broadband in terms of connecting to the internet. Where there are differences is in the package price, speed available and services. Cable broadband can come as a stand alone package or as a bundled package which includes home phone services and digital TV channels for one monthly subscription.
