About uSwitch’s car insurance calculator

The uSwitch.com car insurance calculator asks a wide range of questions about:

  • your personal details
  • your additional drivers
  • your driving history
  • your car
  • the type of cover you want

This may seem like a lot of information to ask for but it means that we can provide the most accurate and detailed car insurance quotes for you. The more details you give us, the more insurers we can search and so you have access to as many deals as possible.

Who does the maths to calculate the premiums?

Every car insurance provider has different criteria for working out insurance premiums. So, we give your details to the separate companies and then present the quotes they return to us in a table. Each car insurance provider works out your premium separately – if our results table doesn’t show a certain provider’s quote it may be that they weren’t able to accept your application, for all kinds of reasons. But don’t worry, because we search so many providers we should be able to find quotes suitable for you.

Don’t worry, although they have your information, the car insurers are not authorised to contact you unless you specifically choose their insurance quote.

Making the right car insurance choice

Usually, the calculator will return a wide range of insurance quotes for you to compare and make a decision. This may not simply be based on price, but on other factors such as the level of cover the company is willing to offer you.

When you’ve made your car insurance choice you’ll be able to review the details of the policy and then we’ll redirect you to the insurers site. Here you will be able to confirm your details, and may be asked a few additional questions by the insurance company – this is to make sure they will definitely accept your quote.
