What's happening to electricity prices?

Electricity customers have spent the last few years seeing their prices go up and up and up. Since 2003 the average increase in electricity prices from the six major suppliers (British Gas, EDF Energy, npower, E.ON, Scottish and Southern Energy and ScottishPower) was 61.7% or £148. In 2006 alone there was two electricity price increases from each major supplier.

Although 2007 has seen suppliers reducing their electricity prices, this has not been enough to date, to counter the huge increases customers had experienced. So there are still plenty of savings to be made on your bills.

What can I do about rising electricity prices?

Try comparing electricity prices to see if you are on the best deal. At the close of 2006 at least 10 million energy customers had never switched suppliers, according to energywatch, the independent watchdog and were missing out on over £1 billion in savings.
