31st August 2005: Powergen's price rises come into effect

Six million existing Powergen customers will have higher bills for their gas & electricity from today as price rises come into force. The cost of their domestic gas will rise by 11.9% and electricity by 7.6%. This will add £52 a year to a typical customer's dual fuel bill.

Powergen announced the price rise in July and cited large rises in the price of oil, which has driven up the cost of wholesale gas as the reason for the price rises.

The following customers are NOT affected by the price rises:

  • Existing Capped price electricity and gas customers
  • Existing Powergen Staywarm customers

Powergen's tariffs and plans have been updated on the uSwitch.com calculator.

3rd August 2005: EDF group announce price rises for energy customers

The EDF Energy group , who own London Energy, Seeboard Energy and SWEB Energy, have announced the cost of their domestic gas will rise by approximately 15.9% (£60) and electricity by 10.8% (£30).

The price rises will come into effect from 5th August 2005 and will be applied to both new and existing customers.

The Online plans are unaffected by this price rise, and tariffs for the Capped price plans are protected until March 2007.

uSwitch.com has updated all affected EDF Energy prices in our energy comparison service.

3rd August 2005: Lloyds TSB increase their energy prices

Lloyds TSB has announced an increase in its gas & electricity prices effective from 1st August.

uSwitch.com has removed the Lloyds TSB plans from the comparison service while the prices are updated. We will advise customers as soon as they have been updated.

3rd August 2005: npower increases its online tariff

npower has announced the following changes to its Sign Online plan.

  • A price increase of 2.25% (£13) for new customers who sign up for gas & electricity
  • New customers will not be eligible for the price freeze offer

These changes are effective immediately and the Sign Online prices have been updated on the uSwitch.com energy comparison service.

Please note existing Sign Online customers are not affected by the price rise.

npower has also announced it will extend its price freeze offer to new customers signing up to npower plans (except Sign Online) before the 31st August. The price freeze offer guarantees no price rises before 1st January 2006.
