Can anyone apply for heating cover?
No. Heating cover is only available to customers who meet the following criteria:
You are the homeowner
Heating cover is predominantly aimed at homeowners who are responsible for their heating and its maintenance.
If you rent, your landlord should take care of your heating for you. It’s up to them to decide whether to get cover for the heating system. In any case, they will be accountable for fixing your heating if it breaks. If you are a council tenant, then your local council are responsible for maintaining your heating.
You live in a flat or house
Heating cover is not available on uSwitch.com if you live in a mobile home or bedsit.
Your house has less than seven bedrooms
It’s also a requirement that your home has fewer than seven bedrooms. If you have more than this, your boiler output is more than likely too high to be eligible for cover.
You only want cover for domestic use
And, unfortunately, we cannot help you apply for cover if your home is used for commercial purposes on uSwitch.com – although plans are available.
Your heating system
There is heating cover available for the majority of boilers and heating systems. However, gas boilers currently have the widest range of plans available. Your choices are more limited if you have a different type of boiler and heating system, such as an electric or oil.
Also, you will have limited choices if your boiler is more than 15 years old.
