*The "up to" speed displayed in Mb is the maximum possible speed you are likely to receive for this product. The actual speed you will get depends on your cabling, your area and (with non-fibre optic products) time of day and how far you are from the telephone exchange. Most providers will tell you the likely speed you will receive when you begin your online sign up - this may differ from the speed displayed in the table.
HD broadband explained
HD broadband refers to broadband TV packages that allow users to enjoy TV shows, movies and premier sports events in rich high definition – adding an exciting new dimension to in-home entertainment.
Because HD content is bandwidth-hungry, HD broadband packages usually provide customers with a super-fast connection which is capable of handling large amounts of data.
Which providers offer HD broadband?
HD broadband is available from:
Sky HD broadband
Sky's HD broadband service stands out for offering 33 HD channels – more than any other broadband provider. The packages also boast pictures with up to four times more detail than those on standard televisions and Dolby Digital 5.1 stereo sound.
To enjoy the service, customers must buy a Sky+ HD box. Channels on offer include Sky Movies HD, Sky Sports 1 HD and FX HD - the US broadcaster and home of quality drama such as The Wire and Generation Kill.
Virgin Media HD broadband
Virgin Media’s HD broadband service also includes Sky’s premium sports channels as well as a library of films, TV and live music to watch on demand. The broadband provider’s fibre optic broadband network delivers a connection speed of up to 50Mb, which means that customers can download movies and TV shows on-demand in seconds.
Virgin Media’s HD box is called V+ and typically features an installation fee of £99.

BT HD broadband
BT Vision features a constantly updated list of new releases for customers to download and enjoy in high definition. The service also boasts fantastic picture quality and surround sound to enhance your viewing experience.
The UK’s largest broadband provider’s HD broadband package includes a brilliant library of documentaries and movies which are charged on a pay per view basis.

Can I get HD broadband?
Before you even consider a broadband HD package, you'll need to make sure you've got an HD-ready television with an HDMI socket.
BT and Sky’s HD broadband services are available all over the UK. However, in order to get Virgin Media’s HD broadband service it is necessary to live in area covered by the company’s fibre optic network. This currently takes in around 12.6 million homes across the country.

The future of HD broadband?
HD is regarded by experts as the future of home entertainment, with more and more broadcasters rushing to join the HD revolution.
As technology improves we’re going to enjoy ever greater picture quality with our HD broadband packages. Japanese scientists have already developed Ultra High Definition TV, which features pictures with 16 times the resolution of current HDTV. Meanwhile, forthcoming 3D HD TV looks set to bring theme park-style fun into your front room.
