We often talk about the big players in the broadband market, but do we actually know who the biggest are, and how much of the market they actually hold?
Well we at Top 10 Broadband would like to illuminate the figures so that you can see who is the biggest and who possesses the weight to throw around. It is also more interesting to know who is at the top in respect to the recent BBC Watchdog reports. You may also like to see how each ISP’s performance (regarding numbers of satisfied and dissatisfied customers) compares with the amount of customers they have.
Well you can despair no longer as here we have the results:
Top 10 ISPs By Size No. Name Subscribers
Virgin Media 3,319,300
BT Retail 3,200,000
AOL UK (CW) 1,523,000
Tiscali 1,400,000
Orange 1,063,000
TalkTalk (CW) 632,000
Pipex 570,000
Sky 343,000
PlusNet (BT) 198,000
Kingston 140,851
So you can see from the results that Virgin Media is sitting comfortably at the top, however if you include PlusNet with BT Retail, BT actually have the largest market share.
However it is possible that Virgin Media may be taking over Pipex soon, in which case they will be the largest provider by a long distance.
If further speculation and gossip is to be believed, Tiscali may be bought soon which could change the whole market again.
Whatever happens we will report it here at Top 10!
