Be Broadband launches speed estimator
Posted 29th August 2008 at 12:00pm by Alex Buttle
Be Broadband is giving customers logging onto their homepage the chance to read an estimate of their connection speeds.
The broadband provider has taken the step in line with Ofcom's voluntary code of practice.
Published in June, the guidance stipulates that ISPs must publish the true speeds customers receive from their broadband services.
The move is also a response to the marketing tactics of rival broadband providers, who insist on giving an 'up to' figures, rather than the actual speed subscribers would receive.
"We feel it is a step in the right direction for the broadband industry to cut through customer's confusion and improve customer trust in their services," said Felix Geyr, managing director at Be Broadband.
He continued: "Be Broadband currently offers the fastest broadband in the UK according to many independent sources and now broadband customers will see just how much faster Be Broadband's service is compared to other ISP providers."
Internet surfers using the online speed estimator are invited to enter their phone number, before being given the good or bad news.
