Fixed-line still faster, figures show
Posted 31st October 2008 at 4:00pm by Alex Buttle
Newly-released figures show that fixed-line broadband provides faster connections on average than mobile broadband.
The news comes as many experts have been forecasting that mobile broadband would make huge inroads into the fixed-line market in the UK.
Data from Broadband Expert put the average speed of fixed-line broadband at 3.61Mb, with the average speed for mobile broadband registering at 1.57Mb.
Commenting on the findings, David Allen of Tech Radar said: "The rise of mobile broadband and the fall of fixed-line broadband may have been a bit premature if recently released figures are taken into perspective.
"Granted the two should not really be compared, but as there have been claims that mobile broadband is a threat to fixed-line broadband, comparisons will be made."
Broadband Expert said that trouble with 3G networks could be blamed for the lower mobile broadband speeds.
