Mobile broadband growth outpacing fixed-line
Posted 26th November 2008 at 4:00pm by Alex Buttle
The number of mobile broadband users in the UK is now 7.3 million, according to new research.
A recent study by Neilsen Online has found that the share of those using the technology has grown by 25 per cent over the last quarter.
Despite lagging way behind fixed-line in terms of numbers of connections, the lightning-quick ascent of broadband on-the-go has staggered those in the know.
David Allen of Tech Watch commented: "It is the take up rate for mobile broadband that has astonished industry experts; around a year ago, there was little or no support for it, now it is difficult to avoid the huge advertising campaigns that providers are mounting."
It was found that those who are between 15 and 25 are the age group most likely to be mobile broadband users, making up 25 per cent of the market.
