BT I-Plate recommended for 8Mb users
Posted 31st March 2009 at 12:00pm by Alex Buttle
Broadband users could enjoy a speed boost by purchasing a BT I-Plate, according to the telecoms giant.
While many deals advertise speeds of "up to 8Mb", subscribers commonly receive below this maximum mark.
According to BT, these users could see their connection speeds increase with the product, which works by cutting down electrical interference from other devices in a typical household.
A spokesperson for BT Wholesale told the Daily Telegraph: "We think that the I-Plate can certainly play a part in delivering higher broadband speeds to people suffering poor performance."
BT conducted a survey which found that a 1.5Mb speed increase was typical for I-Plate owners after they had plugged the contraption into a BT master socket.

Fitted mine yesterday and it seemed to slow my line down. I ran the test loads of times using www.speedtest.net and it always seemed better without it. My line is usually around 2.8-3.2Mb but with the iplate fitted i was getting around 1.4 - 2.2Mb.

It may work well with others but not with my line. Worth having a go though. -

I'm slightly surprised that as of today (16/05/09) there are no comments. I fitted the i-Plate about a month ago and my download speed went from around 1.5 mbps to over 4 mbps.

For anyone with the requisite BT socket, this add-on will almost certainly provide an amazing download speed increase.

much like kevin meatyard after fitting the bt i-plate my speeds have dropped from 3meg to around 2.2meg. However i have been advised to leave the i plate fitted to allow the line to sync with the exchange.

i have also been getting some erratic speed test results, such as 22mb,14mb and 8mb,and from what i have been told this is usual as the line looks for its optimal speed.
The bt i-plate has now been fitted for around 48hrs however i have been told to allow up to 86hrs or even a week to see any changes.
Although i have seen no improvements i get a feeling i will so thats why i am going to leave the i-plate fitted. Also my web browsing seems better and pages seem to load quicker. Will keep you posted ! -

Alternatively just remove the bell wire - quick easy and saves a tenner. I gained nearly 2Mbs sec improvement!!! Worth trying, if it doesn't work you can just connect the wire up again.
