A new high-speed wireless internet service is to be provided by T-Mobile for Virgin Trains.
Announced yesterday (April 27th), the Wi-Fi HotSpot service will initially be made available to all passengers travelling on Virgin Trains' Pendolino vehicles on the West Coast Main Line.
By the summer, people who travel on the company's Super Voyager trains will also have access to the service.
The Wi-Fi broadband connection will be complimentary for First Class passengers, while other passengers will be able to purchase HotSpot passes. T-Mobile Mobile Broadband pay monthly customers will have access at no extra cost.
Access will be available for the entire duration of a journey, including when travelling at high speeds and through tunnels.
Richard Warmsley, Head of Internet and Entertainment for T-Mobile UK, commented: "As the popularity of mobile broadband continues to soar, we want to do everything we can to offer people access to the internet wherever they are."
Nomad Digital, T-Mobile's solutions partner, is responsible for the roll out of the new service.
In 2005, the company installed the UK's first ever rail broadband system for T-Mobile on the Brighton Express.
