Broadband Forum aims to improve IPTV quality
Posted 10th June 2009 at 4:15pm by Oliver Folkard
A new technical report aimed at improving the quality of service of IPTV has been released by the Broadband Forum.
The Splitter Testing Technical Report 127 (TR-127) has been designed to help improve IPTV for both users and network operators.
TR-127 gives operators and independent test labs the opportunity to conduct a system level test across four of the key network elements of IPTV; the CPE Splitter, the Central Office Splitter, the DSLAM and the CPE modem.
By testing splitters via a complete system, TR-127-compliant splitters will stop video signals being disturbed by phone signals that are on the same line.
Broadband Forum Chief Operating Officer Robin Mersh commented: "Video signal interruption by on-hook, off-hook telephone usage has plagued Triple Play delivery since the concept first became reality.
"I'm absolutely delighted that after such a thorough effort by our Testing and Interoperability Working Group we are able to help the industry and its customers deal with this issue."
