TalkTalk considers expanding Tiscali broadband IPTV service
Posted 17th July 2009 at 9:58am by Oliver Folkard
TalkTalk owner Carphone Warehouse is currently considering the merits of expanding Tiscali's broadband TV offering.
Following approval of its £236 million takeover of Tiscali, the telecoms company has revealed there are currently no plans to cancel the IPTV service, which is used by more than 50,000 customers.
What's more, Carphone Warehouse Chief Executive Charles Dunstone told the Financial Times that the service could actually be expanded.
Mr Dunstone added that the supplier is also considering participation in Project Canvas, which is a scheme being led by the BBC to provide digital television channels to broadband users.
"We might say Canvas isn't the answer and we will go and reinvigorate Tiscali TV," he added.
Tiscali TV provides customers with a number of channels - many of which are the same as those broadcast over the Freeview platform - and video-on-demand content over an ADSL broadband connection.
A range of premium channels are also available for monthly fees including GOLD and National Geographic, as well as Sky Movies and Sky Sports subscriptions.
