Virgin Media has extended the coverage of its 50Mb fibre optic broadband service to the oldest continuously-inhabited town in Shropshire.

The internet service provider introduced its fastest broadband package to Whitchurch this week, it has been reported.

According to the Whitchurch Herald, the added speed provided by a 50Mb connection will enable users to download a music album in approximately 11 seconds and a high-quality film in just three-and-a-half minutes.

Jon James, executive director of broadband at Virgin Media, told the newspaper that the speed of the ISP's fastest package would enable households with multiple internet users to get the most from their connections.

"The new 50Mb service in Whitchurch will allow family members to experience ultra-fast broadband at the same time - regardless of how many laptops or consoles they own," he explained.

Virgin Media recommends its 50Mb connection for people who download a lot of media, stream videos and games online. Prices start from £35 per month.
