Fibre-optic broadband services are available in Cardigan, local residents who are campaigning over slow internet speeds have claimed.

According to the Tivyside Advertiser, high-speed cabling is installed at nearby technology site Parc Aberporth and local IT experts have suggested the service could be added to the local telephone exchange so everyone in the area can benefit.

However, broadband provider BT has quashed such plans, stating that it is not as simple as that.

A spokesman from the firm told the newspaper: "It would not be possible to connect Cardigan to that. However, any company that wants fibre-optic can have it at a cost."

Earlier this week, BT confirmed the price details for its upcoming fibre-optic broadband trial, which is set to begin in Highams Park in London at some point next year.

I'm not interested in having the type of service that fibre-optic could provide. All I need is a broadband connection that will not slow to a standstill at peak usage periods and will not cut out at the most inconvenient times (2 to 3 times a week). Yes, BT is my broadband provider and I do pay a premium rate for a service that I am not receiving.
