Mobile broadband provider Vodafone has launched a new service designed to guarantee 3G coverage in the home.

The firm claims that as many as one in 50 people have considered moving home due to poor levels of connectivity at their current address.

As a result, it has introduced the Vodafone Sure Signal plug-in box, which offers download speeds of up to 1Mb when plugged into a home or office broadband line.

The service is available for a one-off fee of £50 for customers on a price plans of £25 or more, or £120 for those on a lower tariff.

"No other network in the UK can ensure a great mobile phone signal in the home, because the Sure Signal is unique to Vodafone," says Guy Laurence, Vodafone UK Chief Executive.

"Customers tell us it is life changing. If they live or work in a basement for example, the only way they may be able to get consistent mobile coverage could be with a Vodafone Sure Signal."

Recent research conducted by Vodafone indicates that 20 per cent of Brits have missed an important event or occasion due to a lack of connectivity.

This device should be free, not 50 quid. It's not your fault if their signal is poor in certain areas. So in fairness, they should give it to folk who need it.

At the end of the day, they will recover the cost of providing the product for free through the calls the people are able to make. Not least because they won't have to walk around the house pointing a mobile at the sky trying to get a text to send!
