Mobile broadband provider 3 is urging UK consumers to snap up its Mi-Fi device, which it describes as an ideal Christmas gift.

The firm took out a full-page advert in the Metro to promote its mobile Wi-Fi device, which carries an initial retail price of £39.99.

According to 3, getting started with Mi-Fi mobile broadband this festive period could be the key to having a "happy family".

This is because the pocket-sized wireless modem allows users to create their own mobile Wi-Fi hotspots for up to five web-enabled devices, 3 said.

"Then all the family can get online when you're out and about," the internet service provider stated, urging consumers to buy a Mi-Fi modem for a loved one.

3's Mi-Fi device secured the 'Best Work Gadget of the Year' accolade at the T3 Gadget Awards 2010, fending off strong competition from the Apple Macbook Pro, Blackberry Bold 9700 and iPhone 4.
