BT's Race to Infinity closes today, deciding the five areas which will be rewarded with a free superfast broadband upgrade.

The race has been going since October, with residents being invited to vote for their town. The five areas with the largest percentage of votes will see their broadband upgraded by 2012 and will also receive £5,000 of computer equipment for a local community project.

Currently, Whitchurch in Hampshire, Baschurch in Shropshire, Innerleithen in the Scottish Borders, Caxton and Madingley in Cambridgeshire and Blewbury in Oxfordshire are topping the leaderboard with 100 per cent apiece.

BT has also pledged to hold talks with any areas where 75 per cent of people have visited the website.

Marton in Warwickshire so far has 78.33 per cent while Capel in Surrey has 75.08 per cent.

Burley in Wharfdale and Lindfield in West Sussex complete the top ten with 67.23 per cent and 61.07 per cent respectively.

Sham? you decide. Not impressed: Blewbury have more votes than lines! 1277 votes out of a possible 1236!

We ran our campaign honestly and all votes we have collected can be proven with paperwork. The campaign has fallen apart. We have all spent a lot of money on this event.

The results are incredible - almost unbelievable. No, its not sour grapes we realized we wouldn't win two weeks ago. but did hope for a fair, clean campaign.

    Hopes now dashed.

This was a BT Sham. BT stated that Votes would influence decisions in plans for the future. On their first announcement after the Race concerning 41 Market Towns, all selected had poor votes. An example would be Billinge that managed 15 Votes in 3 Months. A farce.
