BT continued to add to its broadband subscriber base during the third quarter of 2012, it has been reported.

The broadband provider added another 81,000 customers between July and September to reach a total of 6,446,000 at the end of Q3 2012.

Some 875,000 of these are now signed up for a super-fast BT Infinity broadband deal, the telecoms firm revealed.

Net subscriber growth was down slightly on the first two quarters of the year, which saw increases of 136,000 and 85,000 customers respectively.

However, BT Chief Executive Officer Ian Livingston said the company had delivered "another solid quarter of growth in profit before tax".

"We continue to make significant investments in the future of our business and we are again accelerating our fibre roll-out," he stated.

"We now expect fibre to be available to two-thirds of UK premises during spring 2014, more than 18 months ahead of our original schedule, and we are recruiting more than 1,000 engineers in 2012 to help deliver this."
