Virgin Media has partnered with F-Secure to update its device-level software, and provide 12 months' free advanced security to broadband customers.

All new and existing Virgin Media broadband customers will be able to use F-Secure SAFE browsing protection and parental controls for up to five connected devices.

Simple to install and set up, the cloud-based software replaces Virgin Media’s existing security solution to guard against harmful applications, viruses and other malware.

Parents can also use F-Secure SAFE to define which websites their children are able to view, block access to individual sites and set up PIN-protected profiles.

Mobile broadband and Wi-Fi users can also add protection to their laptops and tablets, ensuring they can browse safely from any connection.

Ordinarily, F-Secure SAFE costs £79.99 per year, but Virgin Media subscribers receive the software for free for 12 months.

Thereafter, cloud-based security can be added to a customer’s package for £7.50 per quarter, or for a £25 one-off payment for the whole year.

Joe Lathan, Director of Broadband at Virgin Media, said F-Secure SAFE - along with Virgin Media's upcoming whole-home security solution - will give consumers the tools they need to use broadband safely.

"We’re going to be working closely with F-Secure to ensure all our customers understand the best ways to stay safe online," he stated.

Allen Scott, Managing Director of F-Secure UK and Ireland, claimed the partnership offers "the best of both worlds" for Virgin Media’s customers.

"They will receive award-winning security products from their trusted broadband provider, knowing it is supplied by a security specialist with 25 years’ experience in protecting people’s digital lives on any device, anywhere," he stated.
