BT Sport has held on to live Bundesliga football after emerging triumphant in a competitive tender for the new rights.

The broadcaster has signed a new two-year deal to broadcast games from Germany's top flight during the 2015-16 and 2016-17 seasons.

This means BT Sport will continue to show domestic matches involving the current European champions Bayern Munich and title rivals such as Borussia Dortmund and Bayer Leverkusen.

BT Sport viewers will be able to watch 115 live matches a season from the highly-rated league - 15 more than under the current broadcast deal.

In addition, BT Sport has secured the rights to the DFL Supercup, plus preview and highlights shows to support the main coverage.

UK football fans have shown great appetite for the German domestic game - with viewing figures up by 70 per cent this season since the Bundesliga came to BT Sport.

The broadcaster airs domestic matches from a number of leading global leagues, including Italy's Serie A, France's Ligue 1, Australia's Hyundai A-League, and the US MLS.

This is in addition to BT Sport's regular coverage of the Barclays Premier League, Scottish Premiership, Skrill Conference Premier, FA Cup with Budweiser and UEFA Europa League.

Simon Green, Head of BT Sport, said the firm is "really thrilled" that it will continue to be the home of Bundesliga football until 2017.

"The Bundesliga takes its place in our schedule as one of the premium European league competitions, having provided both UEFA Champions League finalists last season," he stated.

Mr Green noted that viewers have "loved" the opportunity to watch live matches involving some of the most outstanding teams on the continent.

"I am delighted that the Bundesliga recognised that BT Sport has made a big commitment to German football and will continue to promote and foster the league for UK sports lovers in the future," he added.

Fans have two matches from the Bundesliga to look forward to this weekend on BT Sport -  Bayern Munich v Schalke 04 at 5:30pm on Saturday March 1st and Eintracht Frankfurt v VFB Stuttgart at 4:30pm on Sunday March 2nd.
