Mobile broadband provider EE is to open a new UK customer service centre in Londonderry/Derry in Northern Ireland, creating 300 jobs in the city.

The move is part of a drive to bring 1,000 service roles back to the UK from overseas call centres.

EE's new facility, which will be managed by Convergys, is set to open in late spring 2014, with recruitment expected to begin shortly.

The location of the remaining UK customer service roles will be announced in due course.

Olaf Swantee, Chief Executive at EE, said the company has delivered "the UK's biggest, fastest and most reliable mobile network".

"I am immensely proud of what we have achieved and I am now determined that within 18 months, I will be able to say that EE has done for customer service in the UK what it has done for networks," he stated.

"Returning over 1,000 customer jobs to the UK from overseas call centres is a significant part of the strategy to achieve this goal."
