TalkTalk Mobile has trimmed the price and doubled the mobile internet usage allowance on monthly contracts for the Samsung Galaxy S5, as part of a time-limited promotion on smartphones.
Under the terms of the offer, TalkTalk broadband customers who sign up online for the Galaxy S5 on its TalkTalk Mobile network’s Small plan at £33.75 per month get 600MB of data per month.
Previously, you were looking at an outlay £37.50 per month and a 300MB monthly allowance. The tariff also includes unlimited texts and 300 minutes of calls.
Perhaps the pick of the revamped Galaxy S5 offers, though, is £36 per month – down from £40. With the double-allowance promo, this entitles you to 1GB of data per month, plus unlimited texts and 500 minutes per month.
The round of price cutting from TalkTalk also applies lower-end handsets that have typically made up the core of its smartphone range.
This has seen it tout what it claims is "Britain’s best value data plan", which includes a free handset and monthly allowances of 600MB, 300 minutes and unlimited texts from £7.50 per month.
TalkTalk Mobile’s decision to range the three-months-old Galaxy S5 and the similarly high-end, a la mode Sony Xperia Z2 has been mooted as something of a shift in strategy.
Until recently, its approach has been to focus on lower-cost and mid-range efforts, in keeping with its positioning as a value provider.
