Virgin Media has launched a series of student broadband deals, which are available on nine-month contracts.

Young people heading off to university can sign up for a fixed-line broadband connection, and only pay for the months of the year they need.

With Virgin Media offering nine-month contracts, students do not need to pay for broadband when they return home during the summer holidays.

There are three options for Virgin Media student broadband, with the firm offering up to 50Mb, 100Mb and 152Mb packages.

Subscribers can take advantage of an unlimited download allowance on each of the tariffs, consuming as much data as they like.

The entry-level 50Mb broadband deal is priced at £26.50 per month on a nine-month contract, while the 100Mb package costs £31.50 per month.

Students signing up for 152Mb downloads on a nine-month contract pay £39 per month.

Subscribers on each of the broadband deals need to pay a one-off installation fee of £49.95.

"Choose broadband on its own or get a great value bundle with home phone or TV as well," Virgin Media urges.

"Whichever you go for, you’ll get all the trimmings, too, like servicing and repairs at no extra cost."
