Virgin Media customers enjoyed the fastest streaming at peak times on Netflix in June 2014, it has been revealed.

The latest Netflix ISP Speed Index reported average speeds of 3.30Mb for Virgin Media last month, up from 3.10Mb in May.

BT was in second place with 2.96Mb, up very slightly from 2.95Mb the previous month.

Sky broadband customers recorded average peak-time streaming speeds of 2.74Mb, with EE (2.62Mb) and TalkTalk (2.59Mb) slightly further behind.

As recently as April, BT topped the Netflix ISP Speed Index with 2.93Mb, ahead of Virgin Media's 2.82Mb.

However, Virgin Media's continued investment in super-fast broadband has seen the firm overtake its main rival.

As such, the cable broadband provider can claim to offer the best platform for viewing Netflix content in the UK - among the major operators at least.

According to Netflix, faster network speeds can improve the viewer experience by delivering a better picture quality, reducing start-up times and limiting buffering.
