TalkTalk (Carphone Warehouse)

TalkTalk was set up in 2003 by the Carphone Warehouse, more commonly known for selling mobile phones. In December 2005, TalkTalk purchased OneTel and Tele2, increasing their customer base to 2.4 million and creating a strong competitor to BT.

TalkTalk has thrown down the gauntlet in the home phone market by promising customers that their TalkTalk phone bill will be cheaper than their BT bill. If a customer can prove otherwise, the company will give them £1,000.

TalkTalk customer satisfaction

In the 2007 uSwitch customer satisfaction report, TalkTalk came top for home phone value, with 76% of its customers happy with their costs, and were joint winners in the ‘most likely to recommend to a friend’ category with 67% of customers saying they would recommend the supplier.

TalkTalk were also winners in the 'best billing clarity', 'best talk and payment plan' and 'best for ensuring customers are on the best deal' categories.

How do I connect to TalkTalk (Carphone Warehouse) phone tariffs?

You can connect to TalkTalk through Wholesale Line Rental (WLR). WLR is a product that BT is obliged to provide to other home phone suppliers, allowing them to offer both line rental and calls to customers, over BT’s local network.

If you select a supplier offering WLR you will no longer have a contract with BT, but with the new supplier. Your bills will only be sent from your new WLR supplier. Switching to WLR doesn’t involve any work on your phone line and you keep your existing phone number. It is only available to customers who have a BT line.

How can I compare TalkTalk with other UK home phone suppliers?
