Tesco cutting Clubcard rewards a sign of things to come, says Uswitch

Commenting on Tesco slashing its reward scheme for Clubcard credit card users from the 1st December, following similar changes for its World credit card customers on the 1st November, Tashema Jackson, money expert at https://www.uswitch.com/banking/>**Uswitch.com**, says: “The days of the lucrative reward card appear numbered. From 1st December Tesco Clubcard, credit card users will see their points slashed in half when making purchases outside the supermarket. This is the second time in less than a month that Tesco has reduced its reward offering, after World credit card customers received the same fate in November.

“The alarming trend of credit card providers pulling or dramatically cutting their reward cards, coupled with the fact that over 14 million consumers are planning to put their Christmas on plastic, means it’s never been more important for people to have the right card for their needs.

“For shoppers looking to get something back for their purchases in the run up to Christmas, there are still great rewards cards out there, but they’ll have to act sooner rather than later. In contrast to Tesco cutting rewards, Sainsbury’s Bank is boosting its offer – giving all new Nectar credit card customers who apply before 29th December double points on their Sainsbury’s shopping for the first three months as well as one Nectar point for every £5 spent on the card in other stores. The American Express Platinum Cashback Everyday credit card also remains a strong contender, offering 5% cashback in the first three months (up to £100) and up to 1.25% cashback thereafter.”
