Free SIM deals
What are free SIM deals?
As the name suggests, free SIM deals offer a SIM card completely free of charge. These are now available from all major networks and are a fantastic way of saving money on your call costs.
Here, we’ll give you all the information you need about free SIM deals, so that you’ll be able to tell if this option is the right one for you. We’ll also look at all the networks’ free SIM deals and examine which provide the best value for money.
What are free SIM deals?
Traditionally, pay as you go mobile phone customers who wanted to join a network had to buy a SIM card. However, as competition has increased, it’s became more and more common for carriers to offer SIM cards for free in a bid to attract consumers’ custom.
The result is that you can now pick up a free SIM deal with all the largest UK mobile phone providers, including O2, T-Mobile, Orange, Vodafone and 3. Many of these will even provide a number of free SIMs to customers.
However, in order to be able to choose from the range of offers out there, you will need an unlocked phone – that is one that isn’t tied to a particular network and which will accept any carrier’s SIM. In the event that your phone is tied to a carrier and you want to use another network’s SIM, you’ll first need to get it unlocked. You can get this done in high street outlets or by approaching your existing carrier, both of which will charge a fee for the service.
What are the advantages of free SIM deals?
Free SIM deals can be enticing for a number of reasons. These include:
Take advantage of enticing contract terms whenever you like
If you’ve ever looked at your pay as you go or contract phone’s tariff terms and found that they compare unfavourably with those of a rival carrier, a free SIM deal is ideal. This is because you can simply insert the SIM into the phone and take advantage of the hot offers available, whether they’re attractive overseas roaming charges or a limited period promotional offer. You can then pick and choose when you use the SIM, so that you get the best call prices.
Cheap calls between friends and family
Some networks provide customers with up to five free SIMs. These can then be given to your close friends or family members and because you are all on the same network, it’s then considerably cheaper than calling between different mobile phone providers.
Bonus call minutes
Most networks now provide free minutes and texts simply for topping up by a certain amount each month. This makes free SIM offers even more attractive to people on a budget or anyone who wants to cut down their call costs.
