BlackBerry Storm 9500 details

The BlackBerry Storm 9500 delivers the kind of outstanding e-mail experience that BlackBerrys are known for. But also finds room in for top entertainment features and access to key Microsoft Office packages.

Owners of this wonderfully multi-functional mobile communications device benefit from access to Word, PowerPoint and Excel documents, so they can attend to their business while on the move. Editing these is a breeze thanks to functions such as Copy and paste, change font size, colours and bullet points.

E-mail is at the heart of the BlackBerry Storm 9500, with web-based mail supported. You can also open and download attachments. Alternatively, a range of other communication options are available including the chance to chat online through Messenger apps, or send an MMS or text message.

Elsewhere there is a fantastic media player to keep you entertained and lightning fast 3G connectivity to enable you to surf the web as speedily as you would at home on a PC. Meanwhile, built-in GPS allows you track your routes and arrive at your location faster than ever, particularly when teamed with BlackBerry Maps which gives you turn by turn directions.

Other functions of the BlackBerry Storm 9500 include a 3.2 megapixel camera, with auto focus, auto flash and digital zoom, a high-resolution touchscreen, a full Qwerty keyboard for inputting large amounts of text and 1 GB of internal memory. This can be boosted further by adding a microSD memory card.

More on the BlackBerry Storm 9500

Touted by many as an iPhone killer, upon its launch the BlackBerry Storm 9500, which is the first-ever touchscreen BlackBerry, was met with excellent reviews, with PC Magazine, Endadget and CNET all praising the excellent onboard web browser and call quality that the phone offers. Tech critics were also impressed by the huge improvement that it represented over previous BlackBerrys.

The phone is regarded as BlackBerry manufacturers’ Research in Motion going back to its core design aesthetic, by feeling satisfyingly weighty, solid and reliable as opposed to the company’s more recent experiments with lighter handsets. This is highlighted by the fact that despite its array of power-hungry functions, owners of the BlackBerry Storm 9500 can expect the battery to last for up to 530 hours when the phone is in standby mode and up to six hours of talk time.

Furthermore, in keeping with the business focus of the handset the array of onboard organiser functions are superb. These include an alarm, calendar, calculator, notes, a to-do list and voice memo. Meanwhile, the password protection feature ensures peace of mind in the event that your BlackBerry Storm 9500 ever falls into the wrong hands.

This is a great phone with many excellent features but is let down by: 1. The camera - is only 3.2 m pixels and there is an excessive delay between pressing the shutter release button and the photo actually being taken.

  1. The voice recognition dialling feature (necessary for hands free operation whilst driving)- does not recognise my voice at all (unlike my old Nokia N95) - e.g. i ask it to dial "Bev" amd it asks if i said "Maria".... This is frustrating (and potentially embarrasing !!)

  2. The above problem means that if you wish to dial whilst driving you must first acces the contacts folder. At this point the you've probably been using the (excellent) "Find & Go" sat-nav application with the handset mounted horizontally on the dash / windscreen. To access contacts you must first swith applications and when finally reached , the contacts will only display as though the phone was vertially mounted! Very frustrating! Overall, i would reccommend it but can't help feeling Blackberry have "spoilt the barrel for a h'peth of tar"

This phone looks good & has super good features but the battery rarely lasts more than a day & the touch screen feature can be really unreliable.

This is a great smartphone that does everything I want, the keyboard could be more responsive - I often find that I can't type as fast as I want to for emails but apart from that it's great!
