Tough details
More rugged than screen brickie Jimmy Nail’s grizzled fizzog, the JCB Toughphone is the most robust phone on the market with a useful WAP browser and distinctive looks.
Tough as old work boots, resistant to extreme temperatures and with a ring tone that would rouse the dead, the JCB Toughphone does exactly what it says on the tin - thanks chiefly to a hard rubberised shell that has been designed to withstand being hit by a hammer or being run over by an out of control digger.
Rated to IP53, it is resistant to water, shocks, dust and hard impacts and is guaranteed to work in temperatures down to minus 20 degrees C to 60 degrees. Meanwhile, the screen is glare and scratch resistant to ensure maximum visibility in dusty, outdoor conditions.
As well as the bright, instantly recognisable yellow shell, the JCB branding extends to specially designed animations and ringtones, such as the sound of a JCB starting up, which are loud enough to be heard above the hubbub of a building site or on a busy high street.
The handset is internet enabled with a WAP browser for surfing the internet and is Bluetooth-enabled so that you can synch it with PCs and printers. The phone is packaged with a USB cable and a handy belt clip.
