The Samsung Galaxy range of products takes in cutting-edge smartphones, crammed with all the latest features, and brilliant internet tablets that make it a real pleasure to surf the web while you’re on the go.

Which gadgets are in the Samsung Galaxy range?

The Galaxy range is growing all the time. However, some of the most popular device so far is the Galaxy S. This stellar Android smartphone is one of Samsung’s biggest-selling phones ever. These terrific value mobiles have been equally well received, with consumers appreciating that they offer high-end smartphone functionality for a wallet-friendly price.

The Galaxy tab is the first ever tablet, or slate, in the Galaxy family and is perhaps best described as a touchscreen-operated portable computer. With its massive seven-inch screen, it renders web pages beautifully, so it’s perfect for surfing the internet while on you’re on the go, plus taking care of work or emails no matter how far you stray from the office.

Key features of Samsung Galaxy phones

As befits a rapidly expanding range, the takes in mobiles at a range of price points and differing specifications. However, there are some functions that feature right across the range. These include:

Android operating system

This is the Google-created software on which Galaxy mobiles run. Android is a highly sophisticated platform and efficiently distributes the handsets' resources, so that Galaxy phone owners can multi-task. Unlike some other phones, with a Galaxy mobile you'll be able to use multiple apps simultaneously to really make the most of your time.

Android apps

The Android Market is one of the fastest growing smartphone software markets around. Galaxy owners can choose from tens of thousands of great titles, with many free to download. As well as more practical applications, such as business tools, the portal sells a host of great games and fun novelty apps too.

As with all Android phones, the Galaxy range come with great Google apps pre-installed, such as YouTube and Facebook.

TouchWiz

This is Samsung's widget-based custom-designed user interface that is overlaid onto Android and allows Galaxy phone owners limitless scope to customise the layout of their handsets. This means you can put all your most-used apps on the homescreen so they're only ever a single press of the touchscreen away.

Touchwiz also keeps Samsung Galaxy phones running smoothly and efficiently and free of the glitches and frozen screens that can often blight the smartphone experience.

Social networking

Set up apps for social networking services, such as Facebook, Twitter and MySpace, on your Galaxy phone's homescreen and it's supremely quick and easy to update your profile and keep up to date with friends and family while you're on the move. You'll also be able to save time by simultaneously updating all your profiles.

Richly colourful touchscreen displays

These are central to the Samsung Galaxy experience, with all phones in the line housing fantastically responsive touch-operated displays. The Samsung Galaxy S also debuted the first-ever Super AMOLED screen. This renders images in stunning high-definition for a mobile video and gaming experience of almost unparalleled quality.

Modern smartphone functions

As you would expect Galaxy mobiles are also home to the full gamut of now-standard smartphone features - such as onboard media players, push email, web browsers, cameras, GPS satellite navigation and much, much more.

Some models in the range, such as the Galaxy S Pro, also feature a handy physical QWERTY keyboard for quick and efficient text entry - a boon when you need to type lengthy emails.

The Galaxy range means great value

The Samsung Galaxy S isn’t cheap. But it’s significantly cheaper than an iPhone 4. And it’s also a next-generation smartphone with everything from a beautiful four-inch SUPER AMOLED screen and massive processing power, all of which combine to make it a strong contender for one of the best handsets out there.

The less costly Galaxy branded phones are also great devices. Not least because they offer a chance to get onboard with Android apps for a highly attractive price point.

Samsung Galaxy Tab explained

Android apps

As with Galaxy phones, the Tab runs on Google’s Android platform. That means that you’ll be able to get all the same great apps and run them on your tablet. What’s more, because this excellent device runs the 2.2 version of Android, you’ll be able to open and use multiple apps simultaneously to really make the most of your time.

Exclusive built-in content

Samsung has signed deals with a host of top brands for special content that comes pre-loaded when you buy the Tab. These include some fantastic games from Gameloft, including N.O.V.A Near Orbit Vanguard Alliance HD and racer Asphalt 5HD. These have been especially developed to take advantage of the Galaxy Tab’s large screen and are among a series of Tab-only titles on the way.

Also installed from purchase is a special Financial Times app that offers access to the business news provider’s content and video, plus up to the minute market news. And to keep you entertained, there’s a WHSmith app, which is a Kindle-style e-reader.

Full suite of Office programmes & email

In keeping with the fact that the Tab doubles as a great device for when you need to work while you’re on the go, Samsung has equipped it with the entire complement of Microsoft Office packages, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and a PDF reader.

Push email is also a feature of the Tab. This means that messages are sent directly to the device, making it much easier and quicker for you to respond.

Dual cameras for video calling

The Tab’s 3.2 megapixel and 1.3 megapixel twin cameras make it brilliant for video calling, so you can see your friends and family while you’re speaking to them. It’s also a phone

Unlike Apple’s iPad, the Tab can also be used for making phone calls, just as you would when on a mobile. Why buy a smartphone and a tablet, when you can get both with the Galaxy Tab?
