Nokia’s reputation for manufacturing robust handsets has been further enhanced with the news that a phone which was lost at sea and subsequently recovered from a cod’s stomach still worked.
Businessman Andrew Cheatle dropped his phone into the sea while walking his dog on a beach.
However, the Nokia handset turned up later when a local fisherman gutted a cod and found it in its stomach.
The fisherman was then able to acess the phone's contact list and called a stunned Mr Cheatle to tell him he had his mobile, the Sun reports.
Mr Cheatle said: “I thought he was winding me up but he assured me he had caught a cod that morning and was gutting it for his fish stall and that my Nokia was inside it - a bit worse for wear.
“I didn’t believe him but went to meet him and found it was my phone - a bit smelly and battered - but incredibly it still worked after I let it dry out.”
A short while later Mr Cheatle was forced to change the circuit board which had been damaged, but claims that the phone now works as well as ever.
