BlackBerry has collaborated with top department store Selfridges to produce a set of limited-edition yellow handsets.

The BlackBerry Bold 9000 mobile phones have been produced as part of the retailer’s 100th anniversary celebrations and are currently on show in the store priced at £1,000 each.

As well as featuring Selfridges’ distinctive pantone 109 yellow colour scheme, the BlackBerries have been equipped with a different keypad and a leather protective cover instead of the standard plastic case.

Buyers will also benefit from the so-called VIP version of BlackBerry manufacturer Research in Motion’s (RIM) customer support.

News of the collaboration comes as strong sales of BlackBerry phones are helping RIM defy the current downturn in demand for new handsets.

The company has yet to reveal figures for the latest financial quarter, but in the preceding period recorded profits of £396.6 million. This represents a rise of 90 per cent from the corresponding three months last year.

The BlackBerry Pearl Flip 8220 and the BlackBerry Curve 8310 have proved especially popular with business users and consumers alike.
