A beta version of Nokia’s Point & Find service is now available for testing, which allows users to take a picture of an object and have relevant information sent directly to the handset.

The service works by harnessing GPS data and the image to search through virtually tagged items relating to the subject of the picture, which are then delivered to the phone.

Thus, if you took a snap of a barcode, the service would send you the cheapest prices available for the product online.

Meanwhile, were you to take a snap of a film poster, Point & Find would send showtimes for the movie in local cinemas as well as trailers and reviews.

Nokia Point & Find general manager Philipp Schloter said: "With Nokia Point & Find, businesses are able to target engaging experiences and calls-to-action to consumers.

"We believe that this first Nokia Point & Find-based service for movies will add something special to the cinema experience."

If you are interested in trying the service and have a compatible Nokia mobile phone you can do so at the Point & Find website.
