Vodafone will be offering free Nokia MD-8 speakers with the forthcoming N97 handset, as part of an exclusive offer.

The battery-powered speakers are compatible with any music player which supports a 3.4mm jack and offer up to 40 hours of playback.

Vodafone is the only UK mobile phone network that will offer the M8-8 speakers as part of its contract deals for the touchscreen-operated smartphone.

UK consumers will be able to buy the N97, which is the successor to the huge-selling N95 and N96, from July this year.

Specifications of the handset which have been confirmed include massive onboard storage capacity of 32GB, with scope to boost this by an extra 16GB by adding a microSD card.

The flagship mobile phone is also known to be equipped with a five megapixel camera, a full, slide-out Qwerty keyboard, GPS and Wi-Fi support and HSDPA connectivity for fast downloads at up to 7.2Mb.
