Vodafone has refuted persistent rumours that it be the official UK carrier of the third edition of the iPhone.

Speculation that Vodafone would be named as Apple’s UK partner for the forthcoming handset followed the publication of an online consumer guide to iPhones on a Vodafone website.

However, according to Mobile News, the network has now issued a statement that there are no plans for carry the phone at present and that its advice was aimed solely at owners of unlocked iPhones who want to configure it for Vodafone applications and programmes.

Despite fevered internet speculation over the much-touted handset’s specifications and functionality, Apple has yet to even confirm the existence of a third iPhone.

If the rumours are to be believed, however, the new device will feature a massive 32GB of memory, an improved 3.2 megapixel camera and HSDPA support for fast downloads.

The iPhone is currently only available in the UK on O2.
