3 mobile phone customers can now benefit from cheaper calls and mobile internet usage within the EU as well as cut-price texts.

As of today, 3 will charge its customers 34p per minute for calls made to the UK and to other EU countries while they are in Europe.Conversely, receiving calls will be charged at 15p per minute.

Meanwhile, SMS messages will be priced at 11p to send, but are free to receive. Mobile internet usage is to cost £1.25 per MB.

3 UK head of communication and mobile products John Eccleston said: “We don’t expect our customers to drastically change the way they use their phone or dongle, just because they’re abroad.

“That’s why we’ve made our standard European rates simple to understand. They’re the same no matter which EU country you’re in at any time of the year, and most importantly of all, for our customers accessing the internet while they’re away, they’re the best all-round value on the market.”

Handsets currently available on 3 include the LG KC910 Renoir and the Samsung S8300 Tocco Ultra.

Alternatively, consumers seeking a cheap mobile phone may wish to consider the Sony Ericsson C510 Classic.
