iPhone 3G S buyers can beat lengthy opening day queues by pre-ordering their handset now through Top 10 Mobile Phones.

Network carrier O2 has confirmed to Tech Radar that it will not be taking any advance orders – meaning that buyers can expect long waits at O2 outlets on the opening day as Apple acolytes descend on the stores en masse.

However, Top 10 Mobile Phones is offering the chance to avoid the stampede by pre-ordering now, with the handset dispatched on the launch date of June 19th to arrive at customers’ homes the next day.

Following months of speculation online, specifications for the new iPhone 3G S emerged at the Apple Developers Conference this week.

Addressing attendees, Scott Forstall, senior vice president of iPhone software, revealed that the new mobile phone is to house a 3.2 megapixel camera with video recording, GPS with digital compass and HSDPA support for fast downloads.

Buyers will be able to choose between a 16GB and 32GB edition, both of which will be available in black and white.

I think demand for what is just a sideways step rather than an actual step up will be very low and we will not see the hype, the queues or the system clogging that heralded the arrival of the 3G.

First of all take the specs and the added functions. Yes they are undoubtably improvements but is this really enough of a technological advancement for us to spend hundreds of pounds on a new phone, especially when it is physically identical to the ones we already have?

A 3.2 mp camera with video recording sounds absolutely awesome to the iPhone, but compared to other models and their camera capabilities, it's still pretty naff for the market overall.

Also who buys Apple products? Thats right. Apple fan boys like myself. Most of the people who want an iPhone now already have one thanks to the cheap hansets made availbale last year. Furthermore, as they have been told there's no chance of an early upgrade they will not be in line on the 19th June to obtain the latest handset. Unless, of course, they are either very rich or very VERY stupid.

New users will rather go for the cheaper 8GB 3G or by from online from ebay or abroad, just to avaoid the over inflated costs O2 have seen fit to charge this year. They are unreasonable an not inline with either the rate of inflation, nor Apples wishes that the iPhone be made more affordable. In fact O2 have in effect alienated and put of preactically their entire customer base by their attitude and prices and quite frankly their greed.

O2 does have to sign a contract with Apple with the agreement of how much the iPhone is sold for and on what tariffs. It's not something the company decides. Plus the prices are the same as the 3g Handset so what are you complaining about? It's expected that a higher spec phone is gonna be more expensive.

As for the new handset, though, I played on one yesterday and there isn't really a difference. I'm more than happy with my iPhone and the new software. We all know how clever Apple are at making money and this is just another way.

If there were major differences then it would be understandable to get the handset. But when the only big thing is a compass (how many ppl wud take an iPhone hiking!!) and a 3mp camera it seems to make more sense to update ur 3g handset to the 3.0 software and with the money you saved buy yourself a nice camera or something.
