Samsung has unveiled a brand new highly powerful handset which it claims is the world’s fastest fully touchscreen operated smartphone.

Touchscreen-operated with a 3.1-inch AMOLED WVGA screen, the handset is home to an 800MHz processor to allow a range of the Jet’s features and applications to be used simultaneously.

The phone also features widgets to allow users to customise the layout, as well as a five megapixel camera, A-GPS and 3G and HSDPA support for fast web browsing and downloads.

Samsung has yet to confirm a price or which network carriers will be offering the Jet, but it widely is expected to appear during the third quarter of this year.

JK Shin, executive vice president and head of Samsung’s mobile communications division, said: “Samsung Jet provides a seamless and unrivalled mobile experience as a result of our accumulated technology leadership and pursuit of perfect craftsmanship.

“Our aim is to deliver ultimate satisfaction to our consumers and I believe that Samsung Jet answers the calls of today’s mobile users who want smart features and easy-to-use user interface.”

Samsung’s release schedule for this year also includes the successor to the i900 Omnia cameraphone, dubbed the i8000 Omnia 2, and two new Android mobile phones.
