A new mobile phone using Google’s Android operating system has been unveiled by T-Mobile USA.
The high-end smartphone, dubbed the myTouch 3G, is the successor to the million-selling T-Mobile G1 handset.
However, unlike its predecessor, the new mobile phone will not feature a physical keyboard, with users instead utilising a touchscreen keypad which can be displayed in landscape or portrait mode.
Manufactured by HTC and running on the newest version of Android, the myTouch 3G is also home to a 3.2 megapixel camera and a large 3.2-inch QVGA screen.
Josh Lonn, director of product development at T-Mobile USA, told Computer World that the decision to dispense with a slide-out Qwerty keypad was informed by extensive customer research.
He said: “We're responding to feedback from people who say they think Android is great but they aren't messaging fanatics. They want a phone-first device.”
T-Mobile UK has yet to confirm whether the handset will be offered for sale in the UK.
