In a study conducted by Greenpeace International, Nokia beat out a strong challenge from Samsung to seal the top spot. The environmental group was especially gushing in its praise of Nokia’s moves to phase out toxic components in its product lines.

And in a further sign of just how far the industry has gone towards cleaning up its act, strong showings were also noted by Greenpeace for rival mobile phone manufacturers Sony Ericsson, LG Electronics and Toshiba.
