Not least among these is the issue of recharging phones in rural areas where electricity isn’t available. Making matters worse for people in far flung locales is the fact that shops that offer a recharging service charge $2 to do so – a fee that people living on a subsistence wage can ill afford.

But a solution looks to be at hand. And it’s all thanks to two enterprising Kenyan students. Barely into their twenties, Jeremiah Murimi and Pascal Katana have developed a device that allows people to charge their phones via a dynamo on a bicycle wheel.

We think it’s brilliant idea. And we hope it makes our two young entrepreneurs very, very rich indeed.
