PALM PRE

An application store for Palm Pre is to open for business next month.

The smartphone’s manufacturers have confirmed that a software market for Palm Pre apps will be unveiled during September.

According to the company, the shop will feature both paid-for and free apps, in keeping with the winning formula used by the iPhone App Store.

By the same token, the business model used by Palm for the store also closely resembles Apple’s, with 30 per cent of revenue from the sale of each app going to Palm and the remainder accrued by the developer.

News of developments comes as the Pre’s exclusive UK carrier O2 is thought to be gearing up to launch the mobile phone on October 10th.

Features of the touchscreen-operated mobile phone include a full slide-out Qwerty keyboard, 8GB of internal memory, GPS, Wi-Fi and a changeable battery to make usage more flexible.
