Spotify-copycat app for Android mobile phones withdrawn

Droidify, the unofficial Spotify application for Android mobile phones, has been withdrawn, just days after going on sale at the Android Market.

According to a report from Tech Radar, the designer of the program pulled the application voluntarily over fears that its existence could jeopardise the official Spotify app.

Bobcat Zed revealed on his Twitter feed that he made the move amid fears that the arrangements that Spotify has with record companies could be in danger if the app was left on sale.

He Tweeted: "Just talked to @gustavs of Spotify and we agreed on me removing #Droidify because it violates Spotify's arrangements with the music labels.

“Otherwise consequences could be that the labels would start removing music from Spotify, something that would be a great loss to us all.”

Appearing on at Android Market last week, Droidify offered users live streaming when online as well as the option to create playlists, but was missing the offline playback function which will be a feature of the official Spotify app.

The application was compatible with all currently available Android mobiles, such as the T-Mobile G2 Touch and the HTC Hero.
