Archos has unveiled its first ever mobile phone, as the company looks to diversify its product range from personal media players.

The new mobile phone was sighted yesterday at a launch event for a new Archos tablet and is home to a huge 4.3 touchscreen and an impressively fast 3.5G internet connection.

Archos also revealed that its as-yet-unnamed handset will feature a 1GHz ARM Cortex processor. This promises to allow users to access functions faster than any other mobile phone on the market.

The company’s move into mobile phones comes at a time when a host of technology players who had hitherto shunned the market have announced plans for handsets.

These include computer manufacturer Dell, whose phone was leaked online last month.

Set to go on sale initially in China, the Dell mobile is rumoured to boast a three megapixel camera with autofocus and 8X digital zoom, as well as GPS support for easy navigation.

It is also believed to run a similar operating system to Android mobile phones.
