O2 will begin selling the HTC Touch HD2 as of October 19th, it has been reported.

The network has yet to confirm the day of release for the handset, but according to reports the date of the 19th has been leaked by O2 customer service representatives.

Featuring HTC’s patented HTC Sense user interface, the new mobile phone will run on the latest version of Windows Mobile 6.5 and boasts a host of industry-leading features.

These include a 4.3-inch touchscreen to enhance viewing movies and videos in high definition on the handset, as well as a widget-based homescreen to allow users to customise the layout.

According to HTC Chief Executive Peter Chou, the phone is the “most advanced” so far from the South Korean company but nonetheless is “simple and natural to use”.

The imminent launch of the HTC HD2 comes as the company is also gearing up for the release of the HTC Tattoo – which is being touted as the first-ever affordably priced Android mobile phone.

The Tattoo is the smallest mobile so far to run on Google’s Android platform and also offers a 3.2 megapixel camera with autofocus, as well as a pre-installed Google apps such as Facebook and YouTube.

I wouldn't say it had been leaked. I was told to ring in on the 19th and they may have a date by then. The guys at my local O2 store said they're not expecting to see it before November.

@Tony Woolstencroft. Yeah. It now looks like mid-November on contract, at least. Unless anyone knows different?
