The HTC Hero is set to be updated with the latest version of Google’s Android mobile phone operating system.

A Tweet from the Taiwanese company confirmed speculation that the Éclair upgrade will be a feature of the Hero once the company has adapted its Touch user interface to be compatible.

HTC’s Tweet stated: “The rumours are true! Hero will be getting an Eclair update. We ask for your patience as we update Sense for the fancy new Android OS.”

A subsequent statement issued by the company expounded on its plans, but noticeably did not give any specifics as to when the integration will be completed.

However, it did warn that because “Eclair is a significantly enhanced release, it will require some time to update Sense for this new version of the Android OS”.

The Éclair upgrade, otherwise known as Android 2.0, is the third revamp of the Android operating system in just under a year.
