Sony Ericsson Xperia X3

Rumours are mounting that the Sony Ericsson Xpeira X3 Android mobile phone will go on sale next month.

News that Sony Ericsson was planning a handset employing the Android operating system first surfaced earlier this year.

The mobile phone industry consensus was the phone would not land in shops until January 2010, after the Windows Mobile-powered Xperia X2 arrives on Vodafone next month.

However, the recent leak of new images of the X3, coupled with a teasing Tweet from Ericsson labs, is fuelling speculation that the mobile phone could be due as early as November this year.

Confirmed features of the handset, which will be Sony Ericsson’s debut on the Android platform, include a four-inch touchscreen, eight megapixel camera and HSDPA support for fast downloading and web browsing.

The X3 will also be home to a powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, which will enable users to access multiple functions simultaneously with minimum time lag.

    Very impressive specs.

I think this could well be the phone that challenges the iPhones dominance, well, until the next iPhone model of course :)

SE will not be launching this in November...
It is being announced next month, should be out by February.

SE has held off from Android untill 2.0 AKA Eclair was complete, which it now is. Android will be SE's new main OS.

One thing that is not clear, is if the X10 (Not going to be called X3 anymore) support OpenGL ES 2.0, I don't know what Graphics chip it has. Hopefully it will be on par with iPhone games.

Come on Sony Ericsson, your not doing great financially, you need to get a move on!

    Hi Seb,

It does seem unlikely that the X3 will land next month, especially since the X2 is going on sale that month, too. But who knows, perhaps Sony Ericsson's less than stellar financial performance will prompt them to try and get in early to capitalise on the Android phone gold rush?
